Earthfest

We spent a good part of today enjoying the outdoors at Earthfest in Allen.  They offered a load of activities.  First we walked by numerous booths that had different projects and information.  The kids got to feel animal pelts, touch live snakes and turtles, view insects and minnows, learn about recycling, repurposing, erosion, wind power, and organic gardening.  They made bird treats from natural materials, peanut butter, and seeds, decorated flower pots, and planted seeds.  We enjoyed samples of organic fruits and desserts made in dutch ovens.

It was gorgeous today!  The weather was comfortable and sunny.  Wildflowers were popping up everywhere and there were flutterings of butterflies and ladybugs.  The fragrance was sweet.

One of the major highlights of they day was getting a chance to experience kayaking and canoing.  We had fun paddling around and the kids, once in the vehicles, loved it.  It was short lived but a blast.  Thanks to Grandma for taking pictures from shore.

We also learned about birds of prey from a local raptor center and learned about a screech owl, that was mighty cute.  Did you know they have one ear a little higher than the other so they can localize sound not only from side to side as we do but also up and down?  Neither did I.

We also participated in an Easter egg hunt where we gathered four handmade tissue paper eggs filled with different variety of seeds.  It was a great time.  We learned, we played, we got fresh air, and we went home.
