Meet the Teacher and Football

Having a kid at the high school is fun. Sophie had chosen to attend the Young Women's church activity the night of Meet the Teacher so Neal and I went and had a blast putting faces to names we were still trying to get to know. To give Sophie a hard time we took selfies with all her teachers and the principal but she wasn't embarrassed--She loved it! Some teachers mentioned it the next day and she shared the photos with them!

Her principal, Mr. Russell

That Friday, we decided to try out our first Texas high school football game and it poured buckets at half-time and the band didn't get to take the field or any of that but we just sat there and watched our kids come and go and have fun. It was a bad game for us and we knew it would be but it was fun even being soggy.

On it's way!

Cracked Toilet

You know how that trip to home improvement store is never really one trip and that project is never as quick or simple as you think it will be. Yep, still holds true. We noticed a small hairline crack in the kids toilet tank and hard water streaks indicated it was slowly headed in the wrong direction. We purchased a new toilet and our kids and a friend decided to fully participate in helping until I noticed a crack in what I later learned was the flange. Enter Brent, plumber extraordinaire. Bye money. Hello fixed toilet and flange! Always worth it.

Mingling with Quilters

My quilting needs relationships with real people to continue to progress so I decided to support the local quilting guild by volunteering at their annual quilt show. It's a fairly sizable guild, I learned. I got to meet leaders and a few great everyday quilters like myself. I just did security during set up for a couple of shifts and saw how it all works. And it got me into the show for free. They even invited me to the sneak peak even though I wasn't a member because I helped as asked lots of good questions. Not a bad deal and I was happy to learn this is the next best step for me. Now just to time that around the increasing craziness of my kids lives and I may have something. Sooner or later it will happen.

I loved the vendors and learning all that was out their and why a quilter might choose one thing over another. I bought some fabric to practice free motion quilting on as my next one or two projects. I loved seeing the different styles and techniques used. Here are some of my favorites. That cheetah used foundation paper piecing--extremely tedious with amazing results which is why quilter tolerate it.

First Day of School

And they're off!!! Sophie to her sophomore year, Rhys to 8th, and Neal to collect his things from the office. Though he's been working remotely, it's now official! The kids had a great start. Sophie is at the high school campus now which is like a small college campus and that's just the sophomores through seniors. Rhys really pushed for Advanced English this year to be surrounded by students that worked harder and distracted him less. We supported him in that choice. It's going to be a fun and challenging year.

This year I started up my Mother's Rejoicing Party again year after a few years of funk due to an eclipse, COVID-19, and parenting older kids. We chatted like crazy about a lot of topics and it was great! In attendance were Anna Kenworthy with one of my nursery friends, Leslie Huntzinger who was kind enough to share her friend Hiya with us, Ashley Rogers with one of my nursery friends, Lisa Strebeck, Anjuli Hancock, Kari Garvin, and Xela Wilson.

Fellow Drivers Be Warned

Sophie got her learner's permit today! Her appointment was in Paris--Paris , TX that is! The 1.5 hour drive out there cut off an additional 2 months of wait time for something closer (due to the Covid-19 backup and understaffed offices). Now the scary part begins, for her parents anyway.
