Spring Break - Heading Home

Who loves swamps? Then you should live in the South.  We made a stop in Laurel, Mississippi, to stretch our legs. We follow the HGTV show Home Town so we had fun ducking into the shops in downtown.

We made it into Natchez, Mississippi and spent the next morning touring the historic sites which included a tour of the grounds and rooms of the Melrose mansion, built in 1848 in the Greek Revival style. This was not a plantation but he did own several cotton and sugar plantations and used the forced labor of enslaved people at all his places. Original floors, furniture, and fixtures are still there with some replications due to natural rot of items so old. Our guide was amazing. He was funny, animated, and really took the time to explain how the social, economic, and political changes that affected the owners.

It was good to be home and see our cats and chickens again. Okay...and to start laundry.
