You Are a Living House

Our friend, Kari, presented the most fabulous FHE tonight!

First, she shared a quote by C.S. Lewis and we discussed it. It went as follows:

"Imagine yourself as a living house. God comes in to rebuild that house. At first, perhaps, you can understand what He is doing. He is getting the drains right and stopping the leaks in the roof and so on: you knew that those jobs needed doing and so you are not surprised. But presently he starts knocking the house about in a way that hurts abominably and does not seem to make sense. What on earth is He up to? The explanation is that He is building quite a different house from the one you thought of--throwing out a new wing here, putting on an extra floor there, running up towers, making courtyards. You thought you were going to be made into a decent little cottage: but He is building a palace. He intends to come and live in it Himself." [C.S. Lewis, Mere Christianity, 174; book 4, chapter 9, paragraph 10]

Pretty awesome, huh? Following the discussion, to keep with the theme and the Christmas season, we had fun building gingerbread houses. It was great and we all enjoyed eating as we built.Kenzie and Sophie were proud of their creations.Keri built a castle complete with tower and drawbridge...But the castle could not take the blows of the neighboring kingdom and suffered extensive damage.Carter industriously built a white trash house...Complete with car on blocks sitting in the front yard.Neal added a forest view to his gingerbread house and attempted to strengthen the integrity of his structure by filling it with candy...but it failed to work.Kari's self-proclaimed punctilious nature certainly shown through...and took first place. It was the only house to hold it's form until she stepped outside to go to her car. :-( Oh well! We all had a great time and enjoyed the message and excellent sugar rush. Thanks Kari!
