We decided to head out to the Heard Natural Science Museum and Wildlife Sanctuary on Earth Day. We were gifted with an annual pass this year and are so glad. It's great! We meandered through the museum which was very hands on. Then we decided to try one of the shorter trails (1/2 mile) given our young companions. We had to tell Sophie to stay where she could see us or she would have left us in the dust. Rhys did very well on the dirt trail and only wanted to be carried for a short time at the end.
We saw a tree that had been struck by lightning and lived and another tree that had been attacked by a Yellow Bellied Sap Sucker Woodpecker. These woodpeckers peck the holes, let them fill with sap, and then suck it out.Earth Day was the perfect day to get out of the city, smell the fresh air, and pay attention to the details in God's handiwork.
