So I was talking to my mom on the phone when I looked out the back window and saw a hawk pulling nibblets off one of our chickens. I hung up with mom, yelled "There's a hawk attacking our chickens" and ran out there with the whole family behind me. The hawk took off with the chicken but it was too heavy so dropped it just on our side of the fence.
Rest in peace Imogene.
What followed was a lot of consoling for my son and the purchase of a owl decoy. There are two that regularly hang out in a tree across the street. So we only let them out in the evening, supervised until they are larger.
