Star Student

Sophie was Star Student of the Week in her kindergarten class recently.  The perks attached to this title are presenting an "All About Me" poster to her class, bringing a show-and-tell item, and having a special family guest read to the class.
Sophie had fun choosing her favorite things and gluing the pictures and pom-poms onto the poster board.  She got her feelings hurt a little when kids laughed at her pictures of her in a funny hat and her swinging upside down.

Later, after school Mommy and Sophie had some special mommy/daughter time and went to got look at the animals at the pet store.  She laughed at most of the animals and I slyly made a point that she had each time.  Then later I was able to sit down with her and discuss how she laughed at the animals not because they were bad in any way but that she was enjoying them.  The same went for her friends.  They were enjoying her.  She got it and I was so glad for her and thankful for the prompting not to jump in to fix my baby's hurt feelings to quickly.

Sophie also had a special lunch date with her Grandma J, who is in town.  She got to sit up on the stage with her visitor, seen as a very cool practice by all the students.  She was tickled and got to point out all of her friends to Grandma.

At the end of the week, she was able to choose a favorite item to bring for show-and-tell.  She brought a stuffed mouse that her Grandma knitted up.  She has been toting that toy around in a shoe box (his new home) all week.

After that Mommy was able to come in and read a well-liked book to her and her classmates.  We chose "Wednesday is Spaghetti Day" by Maryann Cocca-Leffler, about a freewheeling feline that becomes the hostess to a food and fun filled Italian lunch while her owners are away.  We got a lot of good discussion and even taught some vocabulary while enjoying the book.

We love our Sophie and were happy that our energetic, spontaneous, friendly, outgoing, sensitive, independent, fun, and talkative girl had a chance to shine as Star of the Week.
