Metal Mouths

So this happened...

Yep, two kids in braces! Rhys' underbite is corrected and his come off in two weeks...until his 2nd set in a few more years. Sophie is having her overbite corrected.

Pinewood Derby

Since Neal and I are den leaders and Rhys is in my Bear den, the pinewood derby was a family event. Sophie stepped in a for a scout that made a car but was not able to be there to race it so it really was a family affair.

Good times had by all and then the system in which they were entering the places had a technical cough and died so nobody could determine winners. With a few smoke and mirrors, they did not revive the program, but redirected the scouts attention to the massive amount of sugary treat which seemed to keep everyone happy.

UPDATE: Weeks later, the family in charge of the date entry was able to retrieve the first 2 of the 3 heats of data and just like that Rhys had a third place trophy of which he is very proud.

Valentine's Day

We continued with our family tradition of our "fancy" dinner for Valentine's Day. The kids asked for hot dogs this year and I did have fun trying to make a new treat for dessert--mini pavlovas!

Double Date

Enjoyed an evening with the Garvins throwing sharp objects! Not as easy as it looks but a great time ax throwing.

Mulan, Jr.

Sophie returned and Rhys made his acting debut in this year's elementary school production of Mulan, Jr. With the drama club growing by a third to just under 100 students, my kids were happy to have been cast in speaking parts after their auditions.

Sophie starred as the matchmaker for a bit of comedy--she was so mean! And Rhys made a great bad Hun sidekick to the really bad lead Hun.  The second night Rhys got to wear a villain mustache, to make him that much more nasty.

We were glad to have Rhys be able to act as he had a bad stomach bug that knocked him down for a few days and I was happy to be able to attend, catching the bug right after Rhys. Sophie avoided the drama with drama by getting the bug after the weekend of the play.

Sophie was honored in the program of being one of 5 kids that has performed all 3 upper grade years since the drama club began.
